MOTOMAN SP Series – High-Speed Spot Welding & Handling Robots (80–235 kg)
High-speed spot welding & handling robots, 80–235 kg payload, up to 3,058 mm reach. Slim design, fast cycle times. Ideal for automotive body-in-white & industrial welding.
The MOTOMAN SP Series is a high-performance range of 6-axis spot welding and handling robots engineered for exceptional speed, precision, and reliability in demanding automotive and industrial welding applications. With payloads from 80 to 235 kg and working ranges up to 3,058 mm, the SP Series accommodates a wide variety of spot welding guns and end-of-arm tooling, including servo-controlled welding guns with integrated robot-assisted gun balancing.
The slim, counterbalance-free design delivers exceptionally fast axis speeds and acceleration for reduced air-cut times, while enabling high-density robot placement in compact workcells. An integrated spot harness optimises wrist flexibility, reduces cable wear, and minimises downtime. Controlled by the compact YRC1000 controller with Yaskawa Sigma-7 servo drive technology, the SP Series delivers outstanding cycle times and energy efficiency for car body construction, subassembly welding, and heavy-duty material handling operations.
KEY BENEFITS
Built for the demanding pace of automotive production and industrial spot welding, the MOTOMAN SP Series combines rapid axis speeds with exceptional acceleration to dramatically reduce air-cut time and maximise throughput. The mechanical design eliminates the need for a traditional counterweight balancer, resulting in lower moving masses that allow greater acceleration, faster positioning, and more energy-efficient operation.
The wide wrist motion range eliminates interference during complex welding sequences, while the slim robot profile enables close-proximity placement for high-density workcell configurations – critical for modern car body construction lines where space is at a premium. The stable, rigid wrist is specifically optimised for the small, fast positioning movements common in spot welding, ensuring consistent weld quality across thousands of cycles.
APPLICATIONS
The SP Series excels in automotive spot welding for car body assembly, chassis construction, and subassembly welding, as well as material handling with stationary welding guns. With models available in standard floor-mount, shelf-mount (SP150R, SP185R), and hollow-arm (SP110H, SP180H, SP225H) configurations, the range offers the flexibility to suit virtually any welding cell layout. Extended-reach models like the SP165-105 provide over 3 metres of working range, eliminating the need for costly linear tracks in large workpiece applications.
Beyond automotive, the SP Series is used in general fabrication, off-highway and heavy equipment manufacturing, appliance production, and any application requiring precise, high-speed robotic spot welding or heavy-payload material handling.
